I studied 100s of B2B companies and most of them make the same 4 mistakes when it comes to their email marketing.
These mistakes cost them thousands in lost revenue every month.
Here they are:
Mistake 1 - No Dedicated Landing Page
Most companies send people to their homepage to sign up for emails.
Big mistake.
Your homepage has a ton of distractions, such as:
Pricing page
Features page
Case studies
Blog posts
So people get confused and leave the site.
How do you solve this?
Create a dedicated landing page with one goal - get the person’s email.
Nothing else.
This alone will help you improve your opt-in rate.
Mistake 2 - No Welcome Email
You get a new subscriber.
Then you wait until your next newsletter to email them.
This tanks your deliverability.
Email providers watch how people interact with your first email.
And the welcome email has the highest open rate of any email you’ll ever send.
So if you’re not sending a welcome email, you’re missing out on a great opportunity to set the right expectations and reach your subscribers.
So send one that does the following:
Tells your audience what to expect
Asks them to reply
Tells your audience to move your email to the primary inbox
High engagement on email one means better inbox placement for every email after.
Mistake 3 - Weak Lead Magnet
"Subscribe to our newsletter" converts at 2-3%.
A strong lead magnet converts at 30-60%.
Your lead magnet needs to solve one specific problem your audience has right now.
Not a generic guide.
Not tips.
A real solution to a real problem.
Example: Instead of "Email Marketing Guide," offer "The 5 Email Templates That Generated $1M for Our Clients."
Make it specific. Make it valuable. Make it fast to consume.
Mistake 4 - No Newsletter
You build a list.
Then you only email when you have something to sell.
Your list forgets who you are.
They mark you as spam.
They never buy.
Email weekly.
Minimum.
Each email should teach something valuable. Build trust. Stay top of mind.
When you finally have something to sell, they buy because they already know and trust you.
If you avoid these 4 mistakes, you’ll be ahead of 90% of B2B businesses.
Keep dominating,
Tanyo
